Welcome to Class 4C
Your class teacher is Mr Chesher
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Children should wear their PE kit to school on PE days.
Reading and writing - we are taking inspiration from 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit. In reading, we will explore inferring emotion from dialogue, high level vocabulary and how to find key information in texts using reading techniques such as skimming and scanning. In writing, we will be creating detailed setting descriptions about the city of Pompeii during a volcanic eruption, and a diary entry from a child who escapes the city before it is destroyed.

Maths - The first term of maths is centered around understanding the place value of numbers up to 10,000, ordering numbers by size, rounding and roman numerals. This will be followed by learning to solve a variety of problems involving addition and subtraction.
Science - We are learning about animals, including humans. The focus will be types and functions of teeth, the digestive system, parts of a human and food chains in nature.
RE - Our central focus this term will be 'What kind of world did Jesus want?'.
History - We are learning all about the expansion of the Roman empire, the lives of the Roman people, and what impact the Romans have had on our society today.
Art - This term is centered around collage. We will be using a range of materials and collage techniques to create artwork inspired by artists such as Gustav Klimt.
DT - We will be making our own biscuits, researching and adapting recipes to suit our preferences.
French - Quel temps fait-il? Meaning What is the weather?
PSHE - We will be focusing on mental health and wellbeing. We will explore how to describe different emotions, how to manage different worries and strategies for being calm, and looking at internal and external distractions.
Music - We are very lucky to have a music teacher coming in to teach year 4 how to play the Ukulele.
| Children should aim to read at home 4 to 5 times per week, which can be recorded in their reading records. As well as reading, children have access to times table practice on Times Table Rockstars, and spelling practice on Spelling shed. Their login details are in their reading records. We would like children to attempt 15-20 minutes of practice on both spellings and times tables each week. |
Reminder: we start our day at 8:20 with early morning activities to settle into the school day. We would love to see as many of you here as possible at this time to have a great start to the school day.
Everyone on the year 4 team is looking forward to what will be an amazing first term with you all!
Mr Chesher
