Welcome to Class 4C
Your class teacher is Mr Chesher
PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays
Children should wear their PE kit to school on PE days.
Welcome back year 4! It's hard to believe we're already half way through the year. We have another exciting term of lessons and topics coming up!
In Writing, we will be reading 'Flotsam' by David Wiesner. This beautiful book is different to most story books we have looked at, and you will see why when you come back. We will be writing a narrative story based on the events of the book, and a non-chronological report on a creature that fits the setting of the book as well!

In Maths- We are working on decimals and fractions for the whole term! Including parts of a whole, counting beyond 1 in the decimal columns, counting in tenths as a decimal and a fraction, and adding and subtracting fractions.
In French - we will be learning about 'au salon de thé (ordering food and drinks at a tea shop).
In RE- Why do Christians call the day that Jesus was crucified 'good Friday'?
In Science - we are exploring how sound is made, how it travels and why vibration is key.
In PHSE- we are understanding money, the power of advertisements on our spending choices, how people make choices about their budgeting and spending, and the increasingly different ways that money is able to be spent.
In Geography - Where does our food come from? Learning about the various places around the world from which we get food, the importance of locally made produce, and how chocolate is made!
In DT- we will be continuing to design and create pavilions, using some tools and developing our knowledge of how buildings are designed to be structurally secure.
In Music - we will be continuing our musical journey around the world with Miss Kent on the Ukulele.
Homework: Please try to ensure that your child reads each night, either alone or with an adult, and talk about what they have read. Make predictions about what might happen next. Any reading will ideally be recorded in their reading records. The date and signature from an adult is all that is needed.
Paper homework will be based on current learning, as well as developing confidence and understanding of the times tables.
'Spelling Shed' and 'Times table rockstars' - Times table rockstars practice has been individually targeted for children using the 'Garage' mode, and assignments on spelling shed have been set for children to practice, which will be shown to children in the coming weeks. (Logins are in the front of their reading records.)
| As a reminder, the school day begins at 8:20am, with activities like maths, handwriting or reading for the children. This also gives children the chance to come in and settle before we begin formal learning promptly at 8:40am. We are looking forward to an exciting half term with year 4! |
